12mm toughened glass is a single heat-treated pane that breaks into small granules. Our 13.5mm laminated glass combines two toughened panes with a structural interlayer that helps hold fragments together if the glass breaks. The key difference is not just thickness, but how the glass behaves after breakage.

12mm toughened glass can suit a staircase with a continuous handrail and a clear finish. Consider 13.5mm laminated glass when retention after breakage is a priority or you want decorative interlayer designs. The correct specification depends on panel size, fixing method, location and required loads, so our technical team confirms the glass thickness before manufacture.
